Feature Request: Automatically Delete PPPoE Secrets Upon Plan Expiry

Dear Developer,

I am using your Zima RADIUS software and have noticed an issue with PPPoE customer expiry.

Currently, when a customer’s plan expires, the customers PPPoE secret remains active and the connection status still shows as connected in ppp active.

I request you to add an automatic expiry feature with the following functionality: Delete the PPPoE secret automatically when the customer’s plan expires…

Hello Vikram,

Thanks for your feedback.
The issue that you described is actually not a bug, it was designed this way on purpose and it is called “soft block”.

Here’s hownit functions:
After you block a PPP, their router keeps trying to authenticate (continuously).
Your Mikrotik log becomes overwhelmed with authentication attempts which is noisy and wasteful.

For that reason, Zima approach was to soft block, which is to receive the authentication attempt and let them connect but their internet will be blocked (by mikrotik firewall rule).

This way, the auth noise problem will be solved and the block works similarly to what you described as: “delete PPP from mikrotik”.

By the way in our new version we provide the option to specify the nb of months the ppp stays in mikrotik before clean up (ppp totally deleted from ppp secrets list). If you want to have the new version let us know. Currently still releasing it in small batches. If anyone interested in the new version let us know.
